Our Story

How we became a leader in energy optimization and system integration.

Energy IQ was created by industry innovators. In 2010, CEO Karl Zimmerman sold his previous business, Intercon Systems, to EnergyIQ, bringing his many years of experience in design, energy management, and building control technologies. EnergyIQ is now a leader in system integration for building automation, energy optimization, microgrid solutions, and smart infrastructures.

In 2017, the U.S. Navy engaged Energy IQ for renewable power asset integrations. The company was recognized for outstanding performance at the 2018 Niagara Summit, held in New Orleans, for the development and control of an industrial-grade microgrid test bed.

Mission and Core Values

Our core principles were born out of our collective drive, commitment, and desire to keep learning.

Quality drives the solutions we deliver, and our team is dedicated to transparency and integrity every step of the way.

Value Generation

Focusing on quality and technology means we can provide the highest value possible for each client.

Growth

Progress never stops, and neither do we. We are on an unceasing journey to learn and embrace improvements wherever possible.

EnergyIQ Leadership

EnergyIQ is run by energy sector leaders with decades of experience in engineering, data, energy management, and systems design.

Karl Zimmerman, CEO

Prior to selling his company to EnergyIQ in 2010, Mr. Zimmerman was the founder and president of Intercon Systems, a leader in energy management design and installation and building controls technologies. He was previously the vice president of Integrated Building Technologies, Inc. (“IBT”), a large regional engineering and mechanical contracting firm, where he managed the low voltage division for energy management, security, and fire alarm systems.

Before IBT, Mr. Zimmerman was director of facilities operations for Sensormatic, where he was responsible for a $25 million capital budget and managed the design, construction, and operations of new and existing facilities. He started his career with IBM as the senior facilities mechanical engineer in Boca Raton and later worked as a senior systems engineer, specializing in data center and retail system construction design and implementation. Mr. Zimmerman earned his B.S. in mechanical engineering from Pennsylvania State University and graduated from IBM’s Sales and Systems Engineering Program.

James Parker, Director

Mr. Parker is a highly respected strategic business consultant with over 25 years of corporate experience. His background includes significant engagements with CEOs, senior executives, and leadership teams at companies such as Ryder Systems, Sports Authority, and the Mayo Clinic. As chief information officer at Outsource International, his technology team was recognized by Fortune Magazine for Best Practices in Implementing New Technology.

In his early career, Mr. Parker held Top Secret security clearance while working on projects such as NASA’s Mass Data Storage Facility to capture and analyze telemetry data from Skylab (early sensors and big data). He also worked on jet engine testing and development systems (early internet of things) for the U.S. military. He has a B.S. degree in mathematics from Florida State University.
